Eurofuel urges the European Commission to ensure that renewable and low-carbon liquid fuels remain a crucial part of Europe’s heating and cooling transition.
Recent indications from the Commission suggest that the previously planned standalone Heating & Cooling Strategy may now be integrated into the upcoming Electrification Action Plan. While electrification is significant for decarbonising heating, Eurofuel emphasises that a narrow focus on it risks overlooking the benefits of renewable fuels, which can provide immediate and cost-effective carbon reductions for millions of households and businesses across Europe.
“A technology-neutral approach is essential,” said Federica Miano, Eurofuel’s Secretary General. “Renewable liquid fuels can complement electrification and offer practical, low-carbon solutions today, particularly in areas where electrification may be challenging or expensive. We urge policymakers to maintain a balanced perspective that recognises all viable pathways to decarbonising heating.”
Eurofuel is committed to collaborating with EU institutions and stakeholders to support policies that promote a sustainable, reliable, and affordable heating sector.
