Stop discriminating against homes using oil heating!

OFTEC, Eurofuel’s UK member, has written to 232 MPs representing rural constituencies across England and Wales in reaction to the UK Government’s new Green Deal Home Improvement Fund announced last week. This Fund effectively excludes properties using oil from taking advantage of the scheme to upgrade their boiler – but homes on mains gas can benefit.

Jeremy Hawksley, director general of OFTEC, argues that the scheme clearly discriminates against rural households which are off mains gas and that it does not address the urgent need to reduce fuel poverty within vulnerable groups such as older people in rural communities. Re-introducing a boiler scrappage scheme would provide a simple, pragmatic way to improve energy efficiency, cut carbon and help many reduce their fuel bills.
